Apologia: Journeys of Faithfulness Review -TOS

I have been going through and getting rid of books that we're not going to use again or that didn't hold our interest enough to want to read them again.  Then we got a book to review with the TOS Crew.  It's a great devotional book called from Apologia titled Journeys of Faithfulness by Sarah Clarkson.  This book will be keeping a spot on our shelves for us to use again and again.  I have a feeling all 5 of my girls will use it.

In a total of 232 this paperback brings you thoughts and makes you think.  It brings to you historical fiction accounts of Mary and Martha, Mary mother of Jesus, Esther, and Ruth.  It brings the Bible to LIFE!!

I did read it to my oldest this time.  She's only 7 so still a beginning reader and needing help with big words so it went a lot faster to read it to her.  I think I got just as much or more out of it as she did.  The five times that I will read it, I believe I shall get something new from it each time.

The book is written in parts and chapters.  The first part is about Mary and Martha and includes three chapters.  Each chapter includes a historical fiction story, a devotional, a Bible Study section, and finally a journal section where you can write your thoughts and feelings.  This was a lot to go through for one morning for a seven year old so I broke it down and we did one chapter per day.   Then we would discuss what was said and apply it to our lives.

Recommended for ages 12 and up, this book only costs $13.  You can read a sample chapter and the Table of Contents while reading about Journeys of Faithfulness.  For the amount of information included in this book I think this is a great deal!

You can read what others think of this book by going to the TOS Crew website and checking out their post and linky.  I know that I highly recommend this devotional and doing it with your girls several times over and over again.

  2. This sounds like a book I should read. I have been looking for good books to read lately. I love curling up with book and a cup of hot cocoa at night in the winter once the kids are in bed.

  4. I love books about the women in the Bible. One of my favorite books of all time is the Red Tent. I could read it over and over. Thank you for this review, I will be ordering this book as well and hope it becomes a new favorite!

  5. What a neat idea to read this with each daughter individually! My oldest is only two, so something like this is a ways down the road for us, but the idea of doing it together I will tuck away in my head. I know I always learn more when doing this with other people.

  8. I was hoping to read more of how you related to the book, and why, to see if I would relate it too. Why it was so enjoyable? The reasons why you read it too and not just reading it out of the scriptures? You say your daughter and you got something out of it but not what you got out of it. you see I am a penny pincher and things are tight to convince me its good I need a personal testimony of it and not just its a good book. I have not explored your blog but maybe those things are posted elsewhere and I will see if I can find it.
