I am a stay at home mother on a tiny little farm with a fixer-upper house. As much as I love writing and reading about homesteaders, I am so glad I’m a homesteader during an era with modern grocery stores to take up for my slack. I am an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher by trade, and I still work occasionally in that field along with being my church’s financial secretary and writing novels.

My husband and I have been married since 2001 and have a daughter and two little boys. My husband shares my fascination with traditional living except for being more hands on. He loves blacksmithing, knife smithing, traditional archery, hunting, etc. Generally whatever a mountain man does, he does it or has or wants to attempt it. He comes in handy for research! And of course, the rest of the family gets involved. I have my own blackpowder rifle, named Calvin, that my husband made for me. And I’m pretty sure my daughter is probably one of very few her age who can instruct adults how to shoot a longbow properly. The boy digs random holes in my yard to make “cement” with dirt and water making our yard a tripping hazard. The baby does what babies do.

My thoughts:  Oh my.  I laughed so hard at parts of this book.  Really, how can you be jilted so many times by getting mail order brides. . . and the how of each one.  Yeap this author has a healthy imagination and I appreciate it.  I have to say he(meaning Everett--and this name makes me think of a certain movie which makes me laugh again) definitely should be thanking the little meddler who helped him land this sweet and beautiful bride.   Of course what happens on the roof is a different story.  I was totally not looking for that to happen!  Loved the ending, though parts were a bit sad(remember I'm postpartum here with mixed emotions).  Go pick up this book, read it, and you won't be disappointed.

My thoughts:  If you've been following my blog for long you know that I love quilts and quilting.  I also love history, particularly Civil War time period history.  This book takes place right before the Civil War.  A grandfather protecting his family by moving them away from where he believes the fighting will be.  I was mesmerized from the start and had to read on and on and on!  I'm looking forward to the next one already.  Our main granddaughter is quite the stalwart, stubborn gal.  She is widowed with a son and takes on the leadership role of leading her caravan of covered wagons all the way to Texas.  She faces disasters and comes out stronger for them.  And of course there is a special quilt.  Will she put her quilt out to show the man wanting to wed her that she is willing?  Better read up and find out!

My thoughts:  I was a bit skeptical of this book at first.  I mean, I'd read about this period in the Bible and what was she going to say that would be different.  How well would it follow biblical?  Anyway. . . .I read the book.  I loved the book.  I had not heard of the twin part in humans but had a horse that did that!  My horse who had the twins recently died and so that was very sad.  But this book was not sad!  It was a joyful uplifting book!  All the trials going on and they kept the faith, shared the faith, and right wins in the end.  Loved the mystery and mystique of the book.  I don't want  to give away surprises, but the tattooed head was brilliant!
