Fundanoodle Orange Level Review -TOS Crew #hsreview

 photo fundanoodlelogo_zps4636896c.png

As you've seen we get lots of homeschool review through the TOS Crew review team, but most of them are geared towards older kids who are already in school.  This time we got to review a fun activity through Fundanoodle.  We received I Can Bead, Lace, Rip, Trace which is for ages 3 and up or preschool.  Well.. . . . I have to change that a bit because my 2 year old was a bit better suited for it than my 3 year old, but more about that later.

 photo beadlaceriptrace_zpse555097e.jpg

This orange level or level 1 kit is designed for preschoolers to help develop their fine motor skills by using beads, lace cards, ripping sheets, and tracing.  It also helps them get ready for writing and school activities.  For me the main thing was it gave my preschoolers something that they could call "school" besides the special coloring books I had purchased for them specifically to use during school time.  My kiddos favorite activity was lacing up the cards.  There is a warning for choking hazard, but most of the pieces were big enough none of mine tried to put them in their mouths.

If they have some hidden artistic talents, this kit is great for bringing those out.  We also worked on practicing our color names with it as well as counting.  It's a great little kit with lots of potential to use it in different ways.  The hand eye coordination is also worked on to help develop that.  Really this little box contains everything you need to help your little one get ready for school and none of it seems like work.  It's all play for the little ones while they work on these things!

This particular learning tool won the 2011 and 2012 National Parenting Center Seal of Approval!  It can be purchased for $29.99.  It comes in a cardboard box case that has a carrying handle so you can take it with you to work on the go or simply use it at home.  We liked to take the lacing cards with us but not the rest as I was afraid we'd lose the pieces.

I have to put a personal note in here.  My older brothers have Cerebral Palsy and I remember as a child having their occupational therapist out to work with them.  A lot of what she did was to help them develop the muscles and skills that this box works on.  Yes they were older when they worked on these, but I want to go out on a limb and say that no matter the age, if you have a child who is challenged in some of these areas please give this kit a try.  I know my brothers hated doing lace up cards(a bit girly for them) but it really did help their fine motor skills and hand eye coordination.

Now back to my first paragraph.  I have a 3 year old who is developmentally delayed and I have a 2 year old who is advanced.  My 2 year old grasped a lot more of the concepts than the 3 year old.  They were both able to string the beds onto the pipe cleaners, yarn, and shoe strings.  They also were both able to punch the centers out of the cards.  My 3 year old though was not able to do the lace cards at all, had difficulty tracing and could not figure out ripping. . . . at the beginning of using the box!  By the end of using the box, she could at least do all of these things.  Yes they were not perfect, but they were much better than when she started.  My 2 year old also made great progress using the learning tools inside the box.

We give this a thumbs up and 5 stars.  My girls loved it and couldn't wait for play time during school the next day.  I loved that they were still learning even while I was working with their older siblings instead of directly with them.

Make sure to hop over to the Main Crew Blog Post to see what other fun items everyone got to review from Fundanoodle!  They have so many great items it was really hard to choose just one to review!

Pumpkin Popcorn Balls Recipe #goodcookkitchenexprt

When I received my latest challenge from Good Cook I knew exactly what type of popcorn balls I'd have to make in October.  Pumpkin!!  I had dubbed October Pumpkin Month so it only made sense.  I received the round Popcorn Baller to try out in my recipe.

These are really easy to make and get the kids taste good seal of approval!

Here you go:
4 batches popcorn(you can use microwave, but I always cook mine on the stovetop in a whirly type popper)
1 Tb coconut oil for cooking popcorn per batch

Cook the popcorn and set them aside in a bowl to cool while you make the coating.

For the coating you need:
1 can coconut cream(15 oz)
1 cup pumpkin puree
1/2 cup pumpkin topping(the oatmeal crumble I've made before)
1 cup dark chocolate chips

Heat this on low until most of the chips are melted and it is all mixed together.  I left a few with bits of unmelted because I love getting a bite of chocolate.

Now comes the fun part!

Pour the coating over the popcorn and stir around until it's all covered.

Place a good amount of the popcorn into the popcorn baller.  Press down to seal into a ball and release onto a cookie sheet.  Do this with the remaining popcorn.  Due to the nature of the coconut cream, I refrigerate these until about 15 minutes before you're ready to eat them.

Now enjoy!  My kids loved these and guess what?  They are actually healthy for you too!  The only non healthy part would be the chocolate but since we used dark chocolate I consider it healthy too!

We loved this!  The kids thought it was super fun and one even licked our spatula because it was more than finger lickin good!  Oh yes.  Yum!

Want to try it yourself?  Use code POPCORN for 25% off your order!  That's a great deal and you can get more than just the popcorn baller I received too!  They have a football, a square, etc.

Class Reunion Series by Debby Mayne(books 1-3) -CFBA Review

This week, the
Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
Pretty is as Pretty Does (bk 1)
Bless Her Heart (bk 2)
Tickled Pink (bk 3)
Abingdon Press (June 1, 2013)
by
Debby Mayne

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Debby Mayne is a best-selling author who has published more than 25 books and novellas, 400 short stories and articles, and devotions for women. She has also worked as managing editor of a national health magazine, product information writer for HSN, a creative writing instructor, and a copy editor and proofreader. Her novel, Love Finds You in Treasure Island, Florida received 4-1/2 stars from RT Book Review, and was named a Top Pick for the month of July. She and her husband Wally have two grown daughters, and live in Palm Harbor, Florida.

 ABOUT THE BOOKS

Priscilla Slater goes to her ten-year high school reunion with equal parts dread and eager anticipation. Even though she’s a successful owner of a chain of hair salons and no longer has the mousy brown hair, crooked teeth, and discount-store wardrobe, she still feels like the ugly duckling. But when she arrives at the reunion, Priscilla soon realizes that her old classmates aren’t exactly as she remembers them. With humor and a just a touch of sassiness, Priscilla finds herself facing her own truth—and she may be surprised at what she discovers.

As Priscilla Slater’s 15-year class reunion approaches, she decides to attend out of curiosity… and to flaunt her latest achievement—taking her business to a national level with the possibility of a TV show. As if getting ready for the event and putting up with the pranks of her former classmates isn’t enough, Priscilla’s hometown visit is further complicated by her parents’ separation. With the once-solid sanctuary of her home broken at the foundation, there’s only one thing Priscilla’s parents can agree on: no matter what sort of accolades their daughter receives as a hair stylist, she’s not living up to her potential. Eager to escape the painful reality of her childhood home, Priscilla bolts as soon as a call from New York brings good news: her offer to purchase one of the best salons in the country is likely to come through. But returning to New York means returning to Tim, Priscilla’s best friend and business pal who has been impatiently suggesting their relationship should be more than a friendship. Despite her recent achievements, will Priscilla learn that success doesn’t always result in popularity—or love?

Priscilla Slater shows up at her 20-year reunion as a national celebrity. Her hair salon dynasty has skyrocketed, and to top it off, she has her own line of hair products. She has become a huge success with the “Ms. Prissy Big Hair” line that lets women with the thinnest of locks get the coveted “big hair” look so popular in the South. Her classmates have finally come to terms with adulthood, but they’re handling it with the grace of a Southern woman wearing white after Labor Day. It’s just downright awkward! Asserting the maturity that her classmates have often lacked, Priscilla holds her head high. But she can’t ignore everything. When she catches her mother in the arms of her former high school principal, Priscilla can’t get out of town fast enough. Eager to get back to her more comfortable life, Priscilla runs head on into an ultimatum: Tim tells her they’re not getting any younger—as if she has to be reminded.

My thoughts:  This is an awesome series!  Wow it just draws you in and makes you a part of the clique from high school and beyond.  Oh how I loved getting to know Priscilla through the series.  And Tim. . . . . oh my he's such a sweetie!  I love how he tries to impress without being too pushy.  And the dramas.  Yeap those high school dramas keep going even 20 years after graduation(just like in real life).  I've been out of school for almost 10 years myself and these make me think that maybe I should go to my class reunion. It might be more fun than I think!  Definitely pick up this series and give them a read.  Once you start you definitely won't want to put it down and after you finish each you're ready for the next, except----sad news, there are only 3!!

Pumpkin Pancakes Gluten and Dairy Free

We really do love pumpkin and pancakes so I set out to change my favorite pancake recipe into a pumpkin pancake recipe!  The kids all approved and loved it!  And it tastes wonderful with a yummy crumble on top.

Ingredients:
5 cups brown rice flour
1 cup tapioca starch
1-2/3 cup potato starch
3 Tb baking powder
1 Tb baking soda
1 Tb guar gum
3 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp cardamon
10 eggs
1/2 gallon of almond milk or water(we prefer the almond milk)
2 cups pumpkin

Heat griddle to 400 degrees while mixing up the pancakes.

Now combine all the dry ingredients into one bowl and whisk together to mix well.

Next take all the eggs and crack into a bowl.

Whisk them all up and add in the almond milk while still whisking.

Now put the pumpkin in with the egg/milk mixture and whisk more.

Slowly add the wet to the dry and whisk as you go.

I put the batter onto the griddle using either a 1/3 or a 1/2 cup depending on how big we want them.  This will make a thicker fluffier batter.  If you want to use these as crepes you can add more milk or water to make it a thinner consistency.

This makes a very large batch.  They do freeze well and can be reheated.  I like to make the smaller size pancakes to pop in the toaster out of the freezer for those mornings when we're in a hurry!

Enjoy!

Super Easy Pumpkin Cake Recipe

So to jumpstart our pumpkin month I want to share a super simple recipe that I decided to try out ie. an experiment.  I had a simple yellow gluten free cake mix that I needed to use up and I had some pumpkin that I wanted to use. . . so I had pumpkin cake that was so easy my 8 year old could have made it on her own!  Oh and did I mention it was also super delicious!

Ingredients:
1 box cake mix(I used standard yellow gluten free)
2/3 cup water
1/2 cup coconut oil
3 eggs(farm fresh)
2 tsp homemade vanilla
1 cup pumpkin puree(homemade is best but canned works)
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp ginger
1/4 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp ground cloves
pinch of cardamon(this is powerful stuff so just a little bit goes a long way)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Grease an 8 by 8 square baking dish.

Pour cake mix in bowl.  Add all the spices and whisk to mix.

Set aside.

In separate bowl mix up all the wet ingredients.  Whisk together really well.

Now pour the wet into the dry.

Pour cake mixture into greased pan and sprinkle with a topping.

My favorite topping is using this simple recipe:

1 cup gluten free quick oats
1/4 cup finely ground demerara sugar
1/4 cup coconut manna
3 Tb cinnamon(I like cinnamon you can adjust this to fit your spice needs)

Mix them all together to form a crumble and "crumble" over the top of anything that you need to garnish.

Okay now simply bake the cake!  Mine needed to bake for just over 50 minutes.  It was very moist and loved by all!

Fall in Love with Lilla Rose and October Flexi of the Month Reveal!

Welcome to October!  It's time to see the new October Flexi of the Month!  And let me just say this is a beauty.  I can't wait to get this one in my hands and in my hair!  As soon as I have it I'll make sure to get pictures so you can see it close up and personal too!

Introducing the Harvest Freestyle!  I have always thought my favorite was the Festive Fallen Leaf but this one just make take it's place!

The good news is it is available in sizes mini through x-large.  The bad news is it is limited supplies.  The other bad news is that there are none in mega.  They didn't do this one in that size so if you need the biggest clip, I'm sorry but we don't have it in the flexi of the month.  That made me sad.  I use the mega for my all up bun and this is definitely a gorgeous clip!

Rembember to go to my WEBSITE and choose your flexi size as well as the style.  For me, this month, it is the Harvest Freestyle!

I have included affiliate links in this post.  If you use these links to purchase product I will get a commission and you will be helping keep my blog going!  Thank you and feel free to share my post!
