Sixteen Brides by Stephanie Grace Whitson
Description(from CBD)- In 1872, sixteen Civil War widows living in St. Louis respond to a series of
meetings conducted by a land speculator who lures them west by promising "prime homesteads"
in a "booming community." Unbeknownst to them, the speculator's true motive is to find an
excuse to bring women to the fledging community of Plum Grove, Nebraska, in hopes they will
accept marriage proposals shortly after their arrival! Sparks fly when these unsuspecting widows
meet the men who are waiting for them. These women are going to need all the courage and faith
they can muster to survive these unwanted circumstances--especially when they begin to
discover that none of them is exactly who she appears to be.
My Opinion: I loved this book! She is a wonderful author and I've read some of her works before.
This book, like so many others, was hard to put down. I found myself drawn in by the characters
and wanting to know what would happen next. This book has much suspense and lots of twists
and turns that make you think. Through it all is a Christian theme and each chapter is begun
with a verse.
I highly recommend this book.
Sounds like a good one. It's so nice to be able to read book reviews. I don't have much time to read but when I do, at least I will know how to pick a good one. I enjoy period pieces.
